The Greenbrier is the grande
dame of the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia, a resort so
steeped in history that reference to it as ‘America's Resort’
is now common parlance.
This Southern
tradition is located 250 miles southwest of Washington, DC in
beautiful White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, just west of the
Virginia state line. Since 1778, the mineral-rich Hot Springs have
been drawing visitors to this colonial region, as they believed
the natural springs acted as an elixir for poor health.
Many of America's rich
and powerful summered at ‘Old White,’ drinking the famed
mineral waters reputed to cure all manner of ailments, bring
colour to the cheeks, and ensure longevity in life.
